The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The Women’s Business School celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

When you hear the word Virago, you might think about a Yamaha motorcycle. But if you Googled a little further you’d find that over the centuries it has been used as a colloquial term for ‘a woman of masculine strength; a female warrior.’ Feeling empowered by the terminology, Jess Breakwell & Em Frost created Virago Logistics, specialising in the distribution of women’s, children’s and beauty e-commerce brands.

Virago, a female-owned 3PL company based in Melbourne, is taking the industry by storm. Founded in 2021 mid-COVID, Virago is committed to delivering exceptional logistics solutions while promoting gender equality in the field. Sometimes things just need that woman's touch.

The logistics industry is notoriously male-dominated, but Virago is breaking barriers and paving the way for women in the field. Led by Jess and Em, who both have had several years in eCommerce and inspired the company’s tagline ‘made by brands, for brands’, Virago's team of experienced professionals is dedicated to providing innovative solutions to complex logistics challenges.

"Our mission at Virago is to create a culture of inclusivity and diversity in the logistics industry," said Jess, co-founder and Client Director. "We believe that by empowering women in the workplace, creating flexible working arrangements around school hours, we can drive innovation and deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients."

This year has already gone off with a bang, with Virago being named as a finalist in AusMumpreneur awards and are well on the way to publishing their first book with Forbes Expert Thought Leader: Yasmin Walter - Curiosity Killed The 9-5 which is projected to be released in October 2023.

Virago offers a wide range of logistics services including packing & shipping e-commerce orders, reverse logistics, returns management, warehousing & storage, inventory management, digital and e-commerce strategy, Shopify / web expertise, customer service management for brands & premium packing solutions. The company has a proven track record of success, with clients ranging from small businesses to medium business fulfilment.

"We are proud to be a woman-owned and operated business in the logistics industry," said Em co-founder and Operations Director. "Our team is made up of highly skilled and experienced professionals from a wide range of industries and are committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients. We have a lot of mums on the team who really go above and beyond. They make us proud on a daily basis."

"We are thrilled to be recognised for making a positive impact in the logistics industry and beyond, and are looking forward to a strong 2023," said Jess. "We hope to inspire other women to pursue careers in male-dominated industries and break down barriers that prevent women from achieving their full potential."

Focussing on growth for the next 12 months, both Jess and Em balance ownership with other businesses and a steady stream of toddlers. Understanding that sometimes being a mum is the most important job of all.
